Troops of the Sri Lanka Army Engineers (SLE), demonstrating their inalienable prowess once again at growing construction industry have undertaken to erect a huge 6-storied building inside the Kandy General Hospital premises at the request of the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine.
The construction work, commenced with the blessings of the Commander of the Army on September (13) this year, houses a spacious separate residential quarter for kidney patients and a dialysis unit, long-felt needs for thousands of patients, affected with Chronic Kidney Diseases (CKD) in Kandy region and nearby districts.
Troops of the 17 Corps of Engineer Services of the 172 Squadron of the Corps of Engineer Services in the Army were to offer their labour and technical know-how and assistance for this giant project gratis which is dedicated for recovery and well-being of CKD patients as a national task.
Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine is to provide funds for the entire construction which has also been initiated on a proposal of the President’s Task Force for CKD, a long term scheme which saw its birth as a conceptual notion of HE the President after the gravity of the incidence of CKD was revealed.
The Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau which closely monitors and implements the construction process prepares architectural plans and other peripheral designs in close cooperation with Army Engineers.
