Army Disaster Management Centre Trains Peradeniya Post-Graduates

A special two-day programme to upgrade the practical and theoretical knowledge of 13 students who are following the Masters of Disaster Management degree programme at the University of Peradeniya was launched at the Army Centre for Disaster Response Training in Atabage, Kotmale following directions given by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva during 7 - 8 March.

The programme with practical sessions was organized at the request of the Postgraduate Institute of Science at the University of Peradeniya.

It was supervised by the Commandant of Center for Disaster Response Training, Colonel Susantha Amarakoon, supported by instructors from Disaster Response Training and Life-saving wing.

The objective of the training programme was to introduce and train post-graduate students for leadership in rescue missions, incident command systems, search and rescue missions, medical first responder (MFR) gestures, collapsed search and rescue (CSSR) missions, basic life-saving and rope rescue missions.
