Army Cricketers Record Convincing Win


The three-day Premier League Cricket Tournament that got underway for three days (Jan 24-26) at Colombo, Maitland Crescent ended recording a thrilling win to the Army team with record half century scores made by Bombardier Asela Gunaratne and Staff Sergeant Sekkuge Prasanna.  

Army SC chased a target of 253 to record the interesting two wicket win against the rival in 8 wickets in the second innings.

In the first innings Bombardier Gunaratne secured 54 runs and 73 in the second innings. Staff Sergeant Prasanna Sekkuge’s 71 in the second innings and excellent balling by Private P.D.C Damith, Staff Sergeant Prasanna Sekkuge and Lance Corporal W.G.G Ravindra steered Army SC to victory.

CCC Cricketers lost at 173 in 52.2 overs in the first innings against 228 of the Army. In the second innings CCC scored 307 in 70 overs against the Army SC’s 253 for 8 wickets in 63.5 overs.

Army’s win adds special significance in the tournament considering scores the Army cricketers collected against other participating teams.
