Army Coordinates Siddhartha Foundation's Donation of Relief Packs to Mannar Residents

Civilians residing in Madu and Vengala Settikulam areas in Mannar District with economic difficulties were the recipients of Army-initiated relief dry ration packs with sponsorship, provided by Talagala Sri Siddhartha Foundation of Ven Talagala Sumanaratana Thero and Tan Ngak Buay & Kee Meng Lang Foundation Limited, Singapore on Sunday (19).

At the request of Major General Anil Samarasiri, General Officer Commanding of the 65 Division, the project got underway at Periyanpandi virichchan Tamil Mix School under the close supervision of Brigadier Namal Serasinghe, Brigade Commander of the 653 Division where a number of 320 selected families in those areas were given each a parcel of 5 kg of rice, 1 kg of dhal, 1 kg of sugar, 1 kg of wheat flour,1 canned fish tin and a soya meat packet to the value of some Rs 2600/=.

The same South-based Foundation has been engaged in providing those relief packs to poor civilians across the country with the coordination done by Army troops at respective ateas of selection.

Divisional Secretary of Madu, Mr Gayan, Major General Anil Samarasiri, General Officer Commanding, 65 Division, Brigadier Namal Serasinghe, Brigade Commander of 653 Division, Civil Coordination Officer of 653 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Dilhan Ganehiarachchi, Senior Officers and Other Ranks of 65 Division and several others with representatives of donors were present at the time of the distribution.
