Army Coordinates Distribution Ceremony of Gifts for Polonnaruwa Children

‘Sleeping Children Around the World’ (SCAW) of Canada expanding its programme of helping the children further in the Eastern sector at the request of the Rotary Club of Kelaniya, distributed 2400 packs of school items and sleeping kits that can be used by children of 6-12 years of age among students of selected schools in the Polonnaruwa District during September 28-30.  

The gift packs consist of a shoe pair, 2 T-shirts, 2 trousers, school bag, mosquito net, pillow, mat, pillow case, 2 bed sheets, etc.

Distribution campaigns were conducted at 7 separate locations in the Polonnaruwa district and it will continue in the next few days too.

Students at Parakrama Samudra College, Polonnaruwa, 192 gift parcels Dawala Mandiraya, 370 gift parcels, Sinharajapura Primary School, Polonnaruwa 238 gift parcels respectively received those donations on Monday (28).

Next day (29) a few of 800 students selected from Lankapura Cultural Center, Al Ikran Primary College, Polonnaruwa, Al Madina College, Polonnaruwa received those incentives.

 On Wednesday (30), a total of 800 students received gift parcels at the Rajarata Central College, Hingurakgoda.

The SCAW under this year’s programme expects to distribute gift parcels to a target of 4000 students in the Polonnaruwa area, identifying the most needy schools.
 
The programme was attended by Ms Linda Wett, team leader of the SCAW, Canada, Mr Sarath Gunewardena, team leader of the Rotary Club, Kelaniya together with several representatives of the SCAW and Kelaniya Rotary Club.
    
The series of those distributing events were coordinated by Lieutenant Colonel Anuruddha Hettiarachchi, Civil Affairs Officer, 222 Brigade under the supervision of Colonel M.R.K.W.B Pinnawala, 222 Brigade Commander on the directions of the Commander SFHQ - E.
