A workshop that helps the public to identify their eye ailment in advance was conducted at Welikanda, Dambulla and Punani areas recently. This was the first of a chain of workshops organized by the 23 Division of the Sri Lanka Army for the benefit of school children and teachers.
41 students and 29 teachers 29 schools, representing all three communities participated in the workshop. Medical Officers Chula Munasinghe and Nalin Gunasinghe of Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital were among many doctors who conducted the workshop, patronized by Professor Nandadasa Kodagoda Memorial Trust and Dharma Vijaya Foundation.
Lack of knowledge on eye ailments denies the rural population of seeking timely medical treatment and this has posed a major health hazard.
