All Officers and Other Ranks of the Sri Lanka Army Commando Regiment joined together at historic Nagadeepa Raja Maha Viharaya in Jaffna last week to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army Commando Regiment.
A newly-carved statue of the Buddha, conducted in a procession from the naval detachment at Nagadeepa was donated to the Vihara as a token of memento to remember the anniversary before 53 Division Commander, Major General W.U.V.Edirisingha also unveiled a new mural that describes historical origins of this sacred temple.
Merits were also invoked on late Major General P.P.Fernando RWS, RSP, ASC who was formerly the Colonel of the Regiment and all war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country after Ven. Navadugala Padmakirthitissa Thera, incumbent of the Nagadeepa Temple performed religious rites.
All ceremonies organized under the auspices of Major General S. D Tennekoon, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna came to a close after a special Bodhi Puja and a sermon on the occasion.
Brigade Commander of Commando Regiment, Colonel S. Suriyabandara, the 2nd in command Commando Regiment, Major L.W.H Gamage , Major D.M.U.G.Bandara and a gathering of Senior Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment joined the ceremonies.
