Army Commander Rectifies Anomalies &;amp; Provides Relief to Disable War Heroes

COMMANDER of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya taking immediate steps on behalf of the War Heroes who received injuries and became disable or totally handicapped under different medical categories has adopted unprecedented measures to provide urgent relief to them. Up to most recent times, disabled War Heroes of regular and volunteer force were deployed for some duty arrangements on the recommendations of the Director of Army Medical Services while giving due promotions up to two subsequent ranks to them.

The present Commander of the Army in response to grievances that were submitted to him personally by affected sections after realizing the inequalities and anomalies in the system has immediately taken following relief measures for the sake of their welfare.

     a.      Those disable War Heroes in Other Ranks in the Regular & Volunteer Forces under permanent medical category under Category (I), if they so desire to provide their services to the Army further in the future, could continue so in their own unit and receive promotions and salaries accordingly.

     b.      Those War Heroes under Category (II) if they so desire to provide their services further to Sri Lanka Army establishments and units other than their own Unit, could do so and receive their salary increments and promotions accordingly.

     c.      War Heroes who became totally disable under Category (III), and are unable to perform their duties, if they so desire, could continue to serve the Army longer and receive salary increments and due promotions.

     d.      Totally disable soldiers under category (IV) who have pledged to retire from the service could receive salary and increments accordingly until they reach the retirement age (55 yrs).

All regiments have been issued instructions and orders in this connection for the implementation of above measures
