Army & Civil Personnel Enlightened on International Humanitarian Law & Human Rights

With the intention of giving an exposure towards human rights and international humanitarian law, several Security Force Headquarters organized awareness programmes to coincide with the International Human Rights Day that fell on December 10.

Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) - organized lecture on the same subject got underway at the SFHQ-MLT auditorium, under the supervision of the Major General P. U. S. Vithanage, Commander, SFHQ-MLT, after an introductory contribution was made by Brigadier N.M Hettiarachchi, Brigadier General Staff at SFHQ-MLT. Lieutenant G.C.P Darmawardene of 6 Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police delivered a special lecture on ‘Introduction to International Humanitarian Law & Military Implications’. More than 150 officers and other rankers were present to listen to the lecture.

Similarly, the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) had a separate lecture organized on the same lines following instructions given by Major General A.K.S Perera, Commander, SFHQ-C. Major U.K Jayasuriya of the Sri Lanka Artillery delivered the awareness lecture on ‘International Humanitarian Law & Human Rights

Moreover, Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) organized a public seminar on the same subject with the participation of more than 100 civilians in Kilinochchi area.

Mr K. Kanakaraja serving in the Human Rights Commission - Jaffna spoke on the theme ‘Our Rights, Our Freedom, Always’ and enlightened the public on their inalienable human rights. Colonel K.T.A.D.S Kolambathanthri, Commander, 571 Brigade, together with several senior officers attended the programme.
