Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army continuing his formal visit to the Eastern area called at the 22 Division Headquarters in Trincomalee on Friday (31).
A Guard Turnout, presented by Gajaba Regiment troops honoured the day’s Chief Guest on arrival at the entrance to the 22 Infantry Division before he was warmly welcomed by Major General S.B Amunugama RWP RSP ndu, General Officer Commanding of the 22 Infantry Division.
Afterwards, the Commander of the Army addressed all Officers and Other Ranks under command to the 22 Infantry Division where he underlined the importance of maintaining the dignity of the profession and their discipline during difficult times and thanked the troops for performing their duties effectively through reconciliation and harmony in close cooperation with local civilians of all ethnicities. He also appealed them to continue their noble service without being duped by various anti-social elements and other interested elements.
Towards the culmination of the address, Major General S.B Amunugama RWP RSP ndu, General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division presented a memento to the Commander of the Army and appreciated his arrival there to meet the troops. The gesture was reciprocated by the Army Chief.
Next, the Commander of the Army was invited to plant a sapling in the premises before he was invited to pose for few group photographs with Officers and Other Ranks.
Major General S.R.K Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces-East and several Senior Officers serving the East also joined the occasion.
