The Colombo International Book Fair 2024, held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) from 27 September to 6 October 2024, introduced a profound new aspect to Sri Lankan literature. For the first time in the Book Fair’s history, the Sri Lanka Army organized a stall showcasing war literature, running parallel to the main exhibition.
On 4 October 2024, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, together with Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit, visited the exhibition.
This new focus on war literature marks an important milestone for post-conflict societies, offering a platform for untold narratives. The featured works, ranging from books and poetry to movies, derived their strength from the raw authenticity of personal experiences, providing insights previously unknown to the public.
