Army Chief in Ruwanweli Maha Seya Makes Offerings

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, together with Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit on Saturday (May 20) morning, hours before they participate in the religious observances at 'Sanda Hiru Seya' premises visited 'Ruwanweli Maha Seya' and called on the Vihardhikari, Ven Eethalawetunuwewe Gnanathilaka Thero.

Moments after the Army Chief made 'Gilan Pasa' offerings and worshipped the sacred Ruwanweli Maha Seya, together with his spouse, both of them were invited to join a donation programme, organized by the monks at Ruwanweli Maha Seya and ‘Atamasthanadhipathi' Ven Pallegama Hemarathana Thero with the generous sponsorship of 'EWIS' Group of Companies. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest donated school accessories to 750 needy students of Anuradhapura.

Before the commencement of the project, all incumbents of 'Atamasthana' in Anuradhapura were offered appreciative tokens and other essential 'Pirikara' offerings by the Army Chief, President of ASVU and distinguished guests who were present at the occasion. The gesture was reciprocated by monks by presenting special mementoes to the Army Commander and Mrs Janaki Liyanage.

Her Excellency Ho Thi Thanh Truc, Ambassador of Vietnam in Sri Lanka, Major General C.D Ranasinghe RWP RSP, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, Major General M.E.P Weerasingha USP ato, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - North Central, Major General W.P.A.D.W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, General Officer Commanding of 21 Infantry Division, Mr Sanjeewa Wickramanayake, Chairman of the EWIS Group, and a large crowd of devotees around the area witnessed the event.
