Army Chief Meets Jaffna Ground Commanders

TAKING A BREAK FROM HIS ROUTINE workload and giving more importance to liberation of civilians under terrorist grip elsewhere in the north, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka flew to Jaffna this morning (14), accompanied by several Senior Officers of the Army Headquarters.

The purpose of his visit was to review continuing security developments in the peninsula and see for himself how matters related to welfare, leave and ration stocks of the soldiers are addressed and resolved, if any. His focus also centred largely on regular outbreaks of violent clashes in and around Muhamale, Nagarkovil, Kilaly and suburbs.

Commanders of all Divisions, Brigades and Units, directly involved in anti-terrorist work and related other affairs listened to the Commander and received further instructions from their chief during the short meeting that followed later on at the Headquarters premises.

Major General G.A. Chandrasiri, Commander Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna received the visiting Commander at the Palaly airport on arrival from Colombo.
