Army Chief Meets East Troops During His Maiden Visit

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army Thursday morning (30 March) in order to meet the troops serving the Eastern region paid a formal visit to the Security Force HQ - East (SFHQ-E) at the invitation of the Commander of the Security Forces - East, Major General S.R.K Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP ndu psc.

A Guard Turnout, presented by Gajaba Regiment troops honoured the day’s Chief Guest on arrival at the entrance to the SFHQ-E before he was warmly welcomed by the Commander, Security Forces-East, Major General S.R.K Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP ndu psc.

After a few minutes, the Commander as has been the practice during formal visits, addressed the Officers and Other Ranks, drawn from all Divisions, Brigades and Battalions where he underlined the importance of maintaining the dignity of the profession and their discipline during difficult times and thanked the troops for conducting their duties effectively through reconciliation and harmony in close cooperation with local civilians of all ethnicities.

Towards the end of the troop address, the Commander, Security Forces-East presented a special memento to the Army Chief and the gesture was reciprocated.

Adding memories to the day, the Commander of the Army was then invited to plant a sapling in the premises before he was invited to pose for a few group photographs with officers and other ranks. During refreshments at the Privates’ Mess after a while, he took time off to share a few views with All Ranks.
