Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, ceremonially inaugurated the newly constructed Welfare Facility Complex at the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment Headquarters on 29 September 2024.
The state-of-the-art facility, named “Bugler’s Den”, offers a variety of modern amenities designed to enhance the well-being of troops.
The one-story complex includes a supermarket, cafeteria, salon, publication centre, tailor shop, and dedicated spaces for birthday parties and karaoke.
These facilities will provide essential services to the troops at concessionary rates. The construction of the complex was completed through the collaborative efforts of 1st Engineer Services Regiment and SLLI personnel, who provided both workforce and technical expertise.
The day’s events began with a warm welcome for the Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, by Major General G.M.N Perera RWP RSP USP ndc, Commander, Security Forces (Central) and Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI, alongside Brigadier J.K.R.P Jayasinghe RWP RSP USP, Centre Commandant, SLLI.
The Chief Guest ceremonially opened the new facility unveiling a commemorative plaque, which was followed by religious blessings from the Maha Sangha.
After the formal opening, the Chief Guest toured the new facility and planted a sapling in the premises to mark the event.
The day's proceedings concluded with an All-rank tea session, and a special memento was presented to the Chief Guest by the Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI.
The event was attended by Director General General Staff, Director Engineer Services - Army Headquarters, Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks of the SLLI, who gathered to celebrate the opening of this significant new welfare facility.
