Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army inaugurated the newly constructed Welfare Facility Complex at Maitland Place on 30 October 2024. The President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit accompanied by several ladies of Officers and Other Ranks also attended the event.
This complex features modern amenities, including two restaurants, a banquet hall, luxury rooms and a ground-floor car park. This complex, a valuable addition to enhance welfare facilities within the Army, will offer exceptional services to all Officers and Other Ranks. It also serves as an ideal venue for hosting various official and private events, which will help to reduce expenses associated with holding such functions elsewhere.
The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome extended to the Chief Guest by Major General W.P.A.D.W. Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, Chief of Staff, along with Major General S.P.A.I.M.B. Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Major General B.K.G.M.L. Rodrigo RSP psc IG Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force. The Commander of the Army inaugurated the facility by cutting a ribbon and unveiling a commemorative plaque, amidst the blessings from the Maha Sangha.
Following the inauguration, the Army Chief and other distinguished guests lit the traditional oil lamp and toured the new complex. In his address, the Army Commander expressed his gratitude to all past Commanders who initiated this project and Senior Officers who toiled hard to make this project a success and praised the Director of Engineer Services and the construction team for their dedicated efforts. The 6 Corps of Engineer Services, under the guidance of the Directorate of Engineer Services, provided both workforce and technical support for the construction.
Then, the Commander of the Army interacted with the troops during the tea session and posed for group photographs taken to commemorate the event.
Principal Staff Officers, Commander Logistic Command, Commander, Security Forces (West), Director of Engineer Services at Army Headquarters, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the event.
