The Finals of the Commander's Cup Inter-Regiment Rugby Championship, which began on 11 June 2024, concluded on 30 July 2024 at the Colombo Race Course with the participation of 14 teams.
Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, graced the occasion as the chief guest, together with Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU). Major General S.R.B Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc, Chief of Staff, Major General S.P.A.I.M.B Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander of Security Forces (Jaffna) and Chairman of the Army Rugby Committee, welcomed the Army Chief on arrival at the location.
The Sri Lanka Armoured Corps competed against the Gajaba Regiment during the final match. In a challenging match, the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps team emerged victorious with a score of 14-0.
Adding importance to the finals, the Army Chief enthusiastically witnessed the match and congratulated the winners and participants.
After extending his warm congratulations to the winners, the Army Chief presented the Championship Trophy to the SLAC players. Prizes for the runners-up and other participants were also distributed by the Army Chief.
Lance Corporal H.N.G Salinda of the SLAC was selected as the Best Player of the tournament.
Principal Staff Officers, Senior Officers, and their spouses, Officers, and spectators witnessed the final encounter.
