Army Chief Commends Retiring Provost Marshal’s Notable Service

Major General A.C.A DE Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc, Provost Marshal, Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Corps of Military Police, prior to his retirement from the Army after a notable career of 35 years, was invited to the Office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, on 30 April 2024, together with his family members.

During the meeting, the Army Chief lauded the Senior Officer for his unwavering dedication and exemplary performance in a variety of challenging roles throughout his tenure. The Army Chief particularly highlighted Senior Officer’s invaluable contributions during the war against terrorism and his continued commitment to duty in the post-war era, especially as a provost officer.

In response, Major General A.C.A De Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc expressed profound gratitude for the unwavering guidance and support given to him by the Army Chief. Reflecting on his service, he also acknowledged the pivotal role played by his dedicated family throughout his career. Towards the end of the interactions, the Commander of the Army presented a special memento to the retiring Senior Officer as a symbol of appreciation and commendation, along with gifts to his family and the gesture was reciprocated.

Here is a brief profile of the retiring Senior Officer:

Major General A.C.A De Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army Intake - 32, as an Officer Cadet on 20 January 1989. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy - Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police on 19 January 1991. After being steadily elevated to subsequent ranks in the course of the span of service in the Army, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 04 February 2023. The Senior Officer retired from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 02 May 2024 on reaching 55 years of age, and at the time of his retirement, he was holding the appointment of Provost Marshal of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police.

He held various appointments during his career, including Provost Officer of the 3rd Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Platoon Commander of the 1st Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, 7th Battalion the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and Training Wing Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police and the Task Force - 1, Headquarters, Officer Commanding of the 2nd Provost Company, 2nd Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, 1st Provost Company, 2nd Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Administration Company, 3rd Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Field Provost Company, 1st Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Special Investigation Unit, Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, 1st Provost Company, 2nd Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police and Field Provost Company, 1st Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, the Provost Officer, 2nd Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, the Adjutant of the 3rd Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police and the Chief Instructor, School of Military Police.

Further, he also held the positions as the Second-In-Command, 1st and 4th Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Officer Commanding, Provost Company, Sri Lanka Battalion of United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), the Commandant, School of Military Police, Staff Officer 1, Directorate of Provost, Army Headquarters, the Commanding Officer of the 1st and 2nd Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police and Special Investigation Unit, Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Colonel (Administration and Quartering), Headquarters, 23 Infantry Division, Chief Instructor, Army School of Logistics, Colonel (Administration and Quartering), Headquarters, 59 Infantry Division, Brigadier (Administration and Quartering), Headquarters, National Cadet Corps, Brigadier (Administration and Quartering), Security Force Headquarters (Mullaitivu), Brigadier (Logistics), Headquarters Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North), Provost Marshal, Army Headquarters and Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Corps of Military Police.

For his unblemished service, he has been awarded Utthama Seva Padakkama.

He has completed numerous local and foreign courses during his military career, including Motor Transport Officers Course, Unit Accounting Officers Course, Regimental Signal Officers Course, Basic Computer Course, Unit Second-In-Commanders Refresher Course and Basic Parachute Course, Officers Provost Course – India, Mid-Career Course - Pakistan, Logistics Staff Course- Pakistan, Logistics and Material Management Course Pakistan, Financial Management, Logistics and Material Management and Human Resources Management Course - Pakistan, Officers’ Criminal Investigation Course - Pakistan, Higher Defence Management Course - India and Advanced Course in Management - India.

The Senior Officer also pursued several higher educational and non-military courses, such as Master of Management Studies at the Osmania University in India, Senior Detective Diploma Course at Sri Lanka Police Academy, Police Basic Investigation Course at Police Training School in Kaluthara, Sri Lanka, Basic Rescue Course at Life Saving Association of Sri Lanka, Certificate in Microsoft Office Professional at London Business School in Sri Lanka, Certificate Course on Forensic Science at Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Certificate Course on Criminal Defence at Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Life Saving CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) Certificate at Life Saving Association of Sri Lanka and Charted Member of the Charted Institute of Logistics and Transport.
