Major General A.P Wickramasekara USP psc, the former Deputy Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, concluded a distinguished career of 34 years with his retirement from the Army. On 13 February 2024, the Senior Officer and his family members were invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu.
During their cordial interactions, the Army Chief expressed appreciation for the retiring Senior Officer's services in various capacities and reminisced about their shared experiences on the battlefield and in the post-war scenario. The Commander of the Army also inquired about Major General A.P Wickramasekara's future plans and prospects, offering him good luck in his future endeavours.
While exchanging pleasantries with the retiring Major General A.P Wickramasekara USP psc, the Commander of the Army took the opportunity to address his family members who were also present, acknowledging their support throughout the retiree’s challenging roles.
Major General A.P Wickramasekara USP psc, in turn, thanked the Army Chief for his well wishes and guidance during his tenure, highlighting the encouragement he received.
Towards the end of their meeting, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage presented a special memento to the retiring Major General as a token of appreciation and commendation, along with a special gift for his family.

Major General A.P Wickramasekara USP psc joined the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 09 January 1990. After completing military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy - Diyatalawa in Intake 33, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 15 June 1991 and posted to Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC). Throughout his career, he held various appointments and steadily elevated to subsequent ranks, ultimately reaching the rank of Major General on 09 December 2023.
He served as the former Deputy Commandant of Defence Services Command and Staff College. He also held the appointments of Troop Commander and Motor Transport Officer of 4 SLSC, Signal Officer of 23 Infantry Brigade, Officer Instructor of Officer Cadet Wing at Sri Lanka Military Academy, Officer Commanding (Balana Company) of Officer Cadet Training Wing at Sri Lanka Military Academy, Brigade Major of 511 Infantry Brigade, Adjutant of Regimental Centre of SLSC, Second-in-Command of 3 SLSC, General Staff Officer 1 (Operations) of 61 Infantry Division, Staff Officer 1 (Administration) of Regimental Centre of SLSC, Staff Officer of United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), Commanding Officer of 9 SLSC, Staff Officer 1 of Office of the Chief Signal Officer at Army Headquarters, Commanding Officer of 10 SLSC, Commanding Officer of Officer Cadet Wing at Sri Lanka Military Academy, Commander of 621 Infantry Brigade, Communication Advisor of Ministry of Defence, Director of Research Analysis Projection & Development Branch at Army Headquarters, Head of the Research Analysis Projection & Development Wing, Directorate of Research Concept and Doctrine at Army Headquarters, Brigadier (General Staff) of Security Force Headquarters – Wanni and Director of Directorate of Psychological Operations at Army Headquarters.
He has followed many local and foreign courses during his military career, such as Battalion Intelligence Officers Course, Officers Par Excellence Course, Operational Staff Duties Course, Army Command and Staff Course, Defence Attaché Orientation Course, Signal Officers’ Basic Course - Bangladesh, Mid-Career Course - Pakistan and United Nations Induction Training Course - Haiti.
The Senior Officer has also followed a number of higher educational and non-military courses, such as National Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health at the National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health at Ministry of Labour & Foreign Employment, Master of Defence Studies at the University of Kelaniya and Master of Arts in Security Studies (Policy and Strategy) at Naval Postgraduate School in United States of America.
