Army Chief Commends Retiring Adjutant General’s Outstanding Service

Major General C.S. Munasinghe WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc IG, Adjutant General and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, on 03 December 2024, along with his family, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army.

During the meeting, the Army Chief commended the Senior Officer for his unwavering dedication and exemplary service in various challenging roles throughout his career, both during the war and in the post war era. The Commander of the Army also acknowledged the pivotal role played by his family in supporting him throughout his career.

In response, Major General C.S. Munasinghe WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc IG expressed his profound gratitude for the steadfast guidance and support provided by the Army Chief. After the interaction, the Commander of the Army presented a special memento to the retiring Senior Officer as a symbol of appreciation and commendation, along with gifts for his family.

Here follows a brief profile of the retiring Senior Officer:

Major General C.S. Munasinghe WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc IG enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet in Intake - 33 on 17 January 1990. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Artillery on 15 June 1991. After steadily progressing through the ranks, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 18 May 2023. The Senior Officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 07 December 2024, upon reaching 55 years of age. At the time of his retirement, he was holding the appointments of Adjutant General, Army Headquarters, and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps.

Throughout his career, he held various key appointments, including Troop Commander of the Headquarters Battery - 4th Field Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery and the 9th Battery of the 4th Field Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, Platoon Commander of the 4th, 8th, 9th, and 3rd (V) Battalions of the Gemunu Watch, Troop Commander of the 9th Battery - 4th Field Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, Battery Captain of the 9th Battery - 4th Field Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, Officer Commanding of the President’s Security Unit, Battery Commander of the 35th Battery - 11th Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, Battery Commander of the 23rd Battery - 8th Medium Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, Battery Commander of the 82nd Battery of the 8th Medium Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, Officer Instructor at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Officer Commanding of the Gannoruwa Company at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Battery Commander of the Headquarters Battery - 4th Field Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, Directing Staff at the Officers Study Centre - Sri Lanka Military Academy, Second-in-Command of the 10th Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, General Staff Officer 1 (Operations) of the Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni), General Staff Officer 1 at the Defence Services Command & Staff College, Commanding Officer of the 9th Field Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, Staff Officer of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), General Staff Officer 1 (Operations) of the Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna), Commanding Officer of the 15th Field Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, Colonel (General Staff) of the Security Forces Headquarters (Central), Officiating Commander of the 681 Infantry Brigade, Officiating Commander of the 141 Infantry Brigade, Commander of the Artillery Brigade, Senior Directing Staff (Army) at the National Defence College, General Officer Commanding of the 12 Infantry Division.

He was awarded the Weera Wickrama Vibhushanaya for his acts of gallantry, the Rana Wickrama Padakkama for his bravery in the face of the enemy, the Rana Sura Padakkama for his bravery on the battlefield, and the Uththama Seva Padakkama for his exceptional, distinguished, and loyal service.

Throughout his military career, the Senior Officer completed numerous local and foreign courses, including the Young Officers Preparatory Course, Unit Command and Military Intelligence Course, Army Command and Staff Course, Potential Military Observers & Staff Officers Course, Potential Defence Attaché Orientation Course, National Defence College Course, Regimental Signal Officers Course (India), Artillery Young Officers’ Course (India), Mid-Career Course (Pakistan), Power and Para Gliding Course (Pakistan), Officers Gunnery Staff Course (Pakistan), United Nations Military Observers Course (Nepal), and the Artillery Battalion Commander’s Course (China).

In addition, the Senior Officer pursued higher education, earning a Professional Diploma in Battalion Commander’s Courses at Nanjing Artillery Academy in China and a Master of Science in National Security and Strategic Studies at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
