Army Chief Commends Para Athletes for Exceptional Performances

Warrant Officer II K.A Samitha Dulan of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police and Staff Sergeant H.G Palitha Bandara of the Sri Lanka National Guard, both distinguished para-athletes, showcased exemplary performances at the Kobe 2024 Para Athletics World Championship in Japan. In recognition of their achievements, they were invited to the Office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, on 27 May 2024.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, impressed by the athletes' accomplishments that brought pride to both the country and the Army, commended them, highlighting their exceptional determination and perseverance. In appreciation of their international achievements, the Army Chief presented special mementos and financial incentives to both athletes, extending his best wishes for their future endeavours. Brigadier G.A.T Godewatte RWP RSP, Director Sports was also present at the moment.

Warrant Officer II K.A Samitha Dulan achieved a World Record in the Para Javelin Throw F-44 category (Distance - 66.49m), while securing a Silver Medal in the Para Javelin Throw event (F-44/F-64) and Staff Sergeant H.G Palitha Bandara won the Bronze Medal (Distance – 14.27 m) in the Para Shot Put event (F-42) during the Kobe 2024 Para Athletics World Championship held in Japan.
