Major General R.M.M Ranasinghe WWV RWP RSP, General Officer Commanding, 11 Infantry Division and Colonel Commandant, Military Intelligence Corps, was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, on 04 September 2024, together with his family members, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army.
During the meeting, the Army Chief commended the Senior Officer for his unwavering dedication and exemplary performance in various challenging roles throughout his career, both during the war and post-war era. The Commander of the Army also acknowledged the pivotal role played by his family, supporting him throughout his career. In response, Major General R.M.M Ranasinghe WWV RWP RSP expressed profound gratitude for the steadfast guidance and support provided by the Army Chief. Towards the end of the interaction, the Commander of the Army presented a special memento to the retiring Senior Officer as a symbol of appreciation and commendation, along with gifts for his family.
Major General R.M.M Ranasinghe WWV RWP RSP enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army in Intake 32 as an Officer Cadet on 14 July 1989. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy in Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers on 19 January 1991. Subsequently, the Senior Officer was transferred to the Special Forces on 11 March 1991. After steadily elevating through the ranks during his service in the Army, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 03 August 2022. The Senior Officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 06 September 2024, upon reaching 55 years of age.
During his career, he held various appointments, including Troop Commander, 5th Field Engineer Regiment of the Sri Lanka Engineers, Group Commander, 1st Regiment Special Forces, Second-In-Command, D Squadron - 2nd Regiment Special Forces, Officer Commanding, D Squadron - 2nd Regiment Special Forces, Officer Commanding, Support Squadron - 2nd Regiment Special Forces, Officer Commanding, Administration Squadron - 2nd Regiment Special Forces, Second-In-Command, 2nd Regiment Special Forces, Chief Instructor, Special Forces Training School, Brigade Major, Headquarters - Special Forces Brigade, Adjutant, Regimental Centre Special Forces, Commanding Officer, 1st Regiment Special Forces, Commandant, Special Forces Training School, Personal Security Officer to the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, Personal Security Officer to the then President of Sri Lanka and General Officer Commanding, 59 Infantry Division.
The Senior Officer has been awarded Weera Wickrama Vibushanaya, Rana Wickrama Padakkama (awarded three times), and Rana Sura Padakkama (awarded four times).
The Senior Officer has completed numerous local and foreign courses during his military career, including the Special Forces Basic Course, Basic Parachute Course, Regimental Signal Officers Course, Basic Marksmanship Course, Commando Course (India), Infantry Young Officers’ Course (Pakistan), Officers Weapon Course (India), Mid-Career Course (Pakistan), and Radar Course (United Kingdom).
