Army Chief with ASVU President Meets 'Abhimansala-2' Wellness Resort War Heroes

Not forgetful of the bravery of the corps of professionally-trained War Heroes who sacrificed their legs and limbs for the motherland before May 2009, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, together with Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) paid a visit to see the War Heroes under recuperation and rehabilitation at 'Abhimansala - 02' wellness resort at Kamburupitiya on Saturday (May 27) and spent a few hours with those resident War Heroes while inquiring about their well-being.

Commander of the Army on arrival was warmly welcomed by Colonel G.G.R Madugoda USP, Commandant 'Abimansala - 2' wellness resort and was saluted with a Guard Turnout at the entrance.

At first, the Army Chief and the ASVU President undertook a tour around the compound and interacted with those resident War Heroes while distributing gift packs, made available by the ASVU. They also closely inspected and learnt about the training practices, daily routines as well as other educational projects, now on at the facility.

Afterwards, the Army Chief with all the invitees participated in a lunch treat, arranged at the cafeteria together with resident War heroes where mementoes and gifts were exchanged.

After a while, the visiting Army Chief and the ASVU President donated a stock of liquid chlorine to the facility for use during cleaning of the swimming pool, generally used for hydrotherapy treatment of those resident War Heroes. Moments later, Mrs Janaki Liyanage was awarded a special memento, designed and crafted by those War Heroes.

Further, the 'Abimansala - 2' Commandant presented a token of appreciation to the Commander of the Army and the gesture was reciprocated by the Army Chief as an incentive to the excellent conduct of affairs at the wellness resort. This was the first visit of an Army Chief to this rehabilitation facility after its founding in the year 2012.

Concluding the day's agenda, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu and Mrs Janaki Liyanage, prior to their exit penned a few complimentary remarks in the visitors' book. Adding memories to the day, the Commander of the Army was also invited to plant a sapling in the premises and pose for a group photograph, together with resident War Heroes prior to his departure.

Major General H.M.U Herath RWP RSP USP Hdmc psc, General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, Brigadier S.C Ekanayake RSP, Director, Directorate of Rehabilitation, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were also associated with day’s programme.
