Army Chief among Invitees to Closing 'Pirith' Ceremony at Historic 'Mirisawetiya' Temple

A week-long ' Sathi Pirith' chanting that got underway at Anuradhapura sacred Mirisawetiya compound in order to invoke spiritual blessings for eradication of COVID-19 epidemic from Sri Lanka and the world culminated on Monday (13) evening after conducting a special 'Buddha Pooja' ceremony.

The Presidential Secretariat, Prime Minister's office and the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs jointly organized the spiritual project that continued day and night from 6 September for a week with the participation of members of the Maha Sangha.

Hon Minister of Youth & Sports, Minister of Development Coordination and Monitoring and State Minister of Digital Technology and Enterprise Development, Namal Rajapaksa, Hon Minister S. M Chandrasena, Hon State Minister Thenuka Vidanagamage, State Minister of Rural Development and Sports Infrastructure Improvement, State Secretaries, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army and officials from all three offices graced the closing ceremony.

The closing ceremony was presided by members of the Maha Sangha, including Most Ven Pallegama Sirinivasabhidana Nayaka Thero, Chief Incumbent, 'Atamasthanadhipathi' for Eight Places of Worship, Ven Pallegama Hemarathana Nayake Thero, Chief Incumbent, Ruwanweli Maha Seya, Ven Eethalawetunuwewe Gnanathilaka Thero, Incumbent, 'Mirisawetiya' Temple, et al.

Adhering to health restrictions, only a limited number of invitees attended the culminating 'Hamara Deshanawa' of the Maha Sangha who also delivered orations (Anushasana) to the occasion.
