Army Chess Players in ‘Super Knights International Chess Championship 2023’ Do Well

The awarding ceremony of the five-day long ‘Super Knights International Chess Championship 2023’, competed by over 500 male and female players from Sri Lanka and abroad got underway at National Youth Service Council at Maharagama on 5 April.

The Sri Lanka Army team secured the 1st runner-up place while Sri Lanka Navy players became the Champions. Sri Lanka Air Force and the National Savings Bank tied for the third place.

Major A. A. B. D. P Abeywardhana of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps became the Champion in ELO rating category 1600 - 1800 while Corporal D. N. S Silva of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps achieved the equal second position in ELO rating category 1000 - 1200.
