Army Built & 'Sirasa' Sponsored Two New Houses Vested in Needy Families in the East

As directed by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of Army, General Shavendra Silva, Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Commander Security Forces-East who entrusted 4 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC ) and 11 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) to erect 'Sirasa Niwasa Project - Phase 3' sponsoring two houses for the needy people in Medirigiriya and Ampara areas.

'Sirasa' Media Network through the Army Chief sought the Army's technical and manpower assistance for constructing of those two new houses for needy families after the TV Netowork selected those families. The Security Force HQ-East troops accordingly completed both projects well in time and handed over to the sponsors for warming.

Major General Channa Weerasuriya graced both auspicious house-warming ceremonies as the Chief Guest, together with the General Officer Commanding 24 Division and the Commander Forward Maintain Area - East. Representatives of Mrs Needra Weerasinghe and Mr Priyantha Wijesinghe of the MTV and MBC Network were present at those ceremonies, held on Saturday (30).

After the miserable poverty-stricken plight of one Mrs Malani Rupalatha of Medirigiriya and Mr Nishantha Senarath Bandara of Ampara were brought to the notice, the sponsors in order to mitigate the costs turned to the Army manpower and their construction skills for erection of these much-needed houses as has been the practice in several such previous projects.

The day's Chief Guest and the sponsors at the auspicious minute unveiled plaques, joined oil-lamp lighting and milk-pot boiling rituals, together with beneficiaries while the recipient's relatives were looking on.

'Sirasa' Media Network officials, Civil Coordinator Civil Affairs SFHQ-E, Commanding Officers of 4 SLASC and 11 SLNG, relatives of the family and well-wishers were associated with the day's events. The sponsors have been gifting such new homes for deserving families since of recent times in close co-operation with the support extended by Army troops.
