Sri Lanka Army Boxers after absence of 6 years grabbed the overall championship in the National Boxing Tournament - 2015, held during March 16 - 20 at Colombo Torrington Stadium of the Ministry of Sports securing Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.
Male boxers in the Army won the championship in five weight categories, runners-up slot in four weight categories and seven Bronze medals as second runners-up category displaying unmatched achievements during the tournament.
In addition, the Army boxing team was adjudged the ‘Most Successful Club of the Year’ in the tournament. Similarly, woman boxers in the Army Women’s Boxers Team bagged the runners-up trophy for two weight categories, out of 6 woman boxers who vied under four weight categories.
Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Boxing Committee, Major General G.R.H Dias, congratulated the achievers in the Army soon after the tournament.
A total of 156 boxers representing 16 sports clubs across the country competed in the tournament, organized by Sri Lanka Association of Novice Boxers.
