Army Barbers Provide Haircut Service to Schools in the East

Sri Lanka Army soldiers, skilled in various vocations to match with professional standards, elsewhere in the country have launched a new humanitarian project in Verugal, Ichchalanpattu areas and the Eastern Province by playing the roles of ‘barbers’ once in every two months.

Observing that hundreds of school students in Tamil and Sinhala dominated areas in the 222 Brigade under the 22 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) abstain from going for regular haircuts due to financial constraints, the Civil Affairs Coordination Office in the East at the request of respective school principals, has begun providing this regular service of Army barbers for haircuts of poor students once in every two months.

On January 24, Army barbers of the 27 Sri Lanka National Guard (27SLNG) troops of the 222 Brigade in Jayanthipura, Kanthale, serving Ichchalanpattu area, went to Vinayagar Vidyalayam in Pumarattadichenai and provided their barber service free of charge to 25 school children who had overgrown hair.

School authorities, full of praise to the Army, have provided refreshments and other facilities for the project at Pumarattadichenai.

Once in every two months, a team of barbers of the Army including members of the civil staff provide this service to remote schools in the East in consultation with school authorities.
