THE SRI LANKAN Army Band will be in Doha for the first time to take part in cultural shows being organised by the Sri Lankan embassy in Doha to mark Sri Lanka\'s Independence Day celebrations next month.
Sri Lanka celebrates its 60th Independence Day on February 4 but the cultural programmes have been lined up in the middle of February at Gulf Cinema.
The celebrations, according to Sri Lanka\'s Ambassador, S. B. Atugoda, would begin with flag hoisting at the mission premises at 8am on February 4.
Students from Stafford International School will sing the national anthem. After lighting the traditional lamp, two minutes silence will be observed to pay homage to national heroes.
Community members are welcome to the function, he said.
