Army Athletic Achievers in ‘CISM World Games - 2019’ Return Home

The team of Army athletes competing in the recent 7th CISM World Games - 2019 in Wuhan City in the Republic of China secured Bronze Medals and several prominent places during 15-28 October.

A group of 14 athletes representing the athletic pool of the Army Athletic Committee secured prominent places in Javelin Throw (Men & Women), 100 m (Male), 400 m (Male & Female), Hurdle Race (3000m) and Long Jump (Male). A total of 12,000 athletes from all over the world took part in the 7th edition of the CISM World Games in athletes’ village in Wuhan.

Army achievers in the CISM World Games - 2019 are as follows;

Javelin Throw (Women)

Warrant Officer I, B.L Nadeeka Lakmali of 2 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) (Bronze Medal with 52.73m distance).

Javelin Throw (Men)

Private R.M.J.S Ranasinghe of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) (Bronze Medal with 73.35m).

100m (Male)

Bombardier W.K.H Esan of Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) (10.62 seconds and was selected to the final round)

400m (Male)

Gunner S.A Darshana of SLA (8th place at the finals with the performance of 47.05 seconds)

400m Female

Lance Corporal R Nadeesha of 5 SLAWC (7th place with the performance of 53.87 seconds)

3000m Hurdles (Women)

Sergeant U.K.N Rathnayake (5th place with the performance of 9 min 48 sec.38)

Long Jump (Male)

Private L.S Dhananjaya of SLEME and Lance Corporal P.A.G.J.P Wimalasiri of Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) (placed 4th &14th places respectively)

Long Jump (Female)

Private S.L Sarangi Silva of SLAWC (4th place)

Triple Jump (Female)

Private H.D.V Lakshani of SLAWC (5th place)
