Army Athletic Achievers in AAC, Paris & India Promoted & Receive Laurels from Army Chief

All 10 Army athletes who brought laurels to the country having made national and international records in the recent Asian Athletics Championship - 2023 (AAC) in Thailand, Para Athletic World Championship 2023 in Paris and Commonwealth Senior, Junior and Youth Championships - 2023 in India were promoted to their next rank this morning (21 July) and awarded appreciative mementos by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage shared views with those athletic achievers and inquired about their experiences during the exposure in the tournaments and praised them for their achievements, some of which were also record-breaking.

Sergeant H.K.K. Kumarage of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Bombardier S.A Darshana of 6 Sri Lanka Artillery, Corporal N. Ramanayake of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, Corporal H.L.N.D Lekamge of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, Lance Corporal R.M.R.N Rajakaruna of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Lance Bombardier P.M.P.L Kodikara of 6 Sri Lanka Artillery, Gunner G.D.K.K Niku of 6 Sri Lanka Artillery and Private D.R.H Kure of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps who excelled in Para Athletic World Championship 2023 in Paris were afterwards awarded appreciative mementos by the Army Chief.

In addition, Warrant Offers II A.G.S Abeywickrama of 15 Sri Lanka Artillery and Para athlete Staff Sergeant K.A.S Dulan of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police who showed their excellence in Commonwealth Senior, Junior and Youth Championship - 2023 and Para Athletic World Championship 2023 were also respectively promoted and awarded appreciative mementos.

Major General W.A.S.S Wanasinghe RSP VSV USP ndu, Chief of Staff, Major General M.W.T.C Mettananda USP ndc, Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Weightlifting Committee and Commander of Forward Maintenance Area - Mullaittivu, Major General R.A.J.N Ranasinghe RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding of 62 Infantry Division and Chairmen of Army Athletic Committee, Brigadier I.H.M.R.K Herath USP ndc psc, Director, Directorate of Media, Brigadier P.A.M Peiris RSP USP psc, Director Sports, were also associated with the brief commendation ceremony at the Commander’s Office.
