Army Athletes in International Games Shine

Sri Lanka Army athletes with the blessings of the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva in the most recent past have been able to compete in several international sports events, bringing reputation to the country and the organization alike.

Private S.L.S Silva (Sarangi) of 5 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps presently undergoing training in Doha, Qatar, participated in the ‘76th Cezmi Or Memorial Athletic Championship’ on Wednesday (23) and established a new Sri Lankan record by marking 6.44 meters in Long Jump. She also was the winner of a gold medal in South Asian Games, held in Nepal in 2019.

Similarly, Lance Corporal L.G.S Dananjaya (Dananjaya) of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) won the gold medal in the Long Jump (male) event by marking 7.78 m in the ‘76th Cezmi Or Memorial Athletic Championship’.

Major General Harendra Ranasingha, Chairman, Sri Lanka Amy Athletic Committee and Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi was instrumental in getting the maximum support of the Commander of the Army for participation in such international events.
