Army Athletes Dominate ‘Race Walking’ Event in DSG

The 'Race Walking’ event of the ongoing 12th Defence Services Games (DSG) was dominated by Sri Lanka Army athletes displaying extraordinary performances on Saturday (June 24) morning clinching almost all the medals to the Sri Lanka Army.

Organized by the Sri Lanka Air Force, more than 60 Tri-Service athletes vied in the event, held at the Sri Lanka Air Force Base, Katunayake.

Army athletes won 02 Gold, 02 Silver and 01 Bronze medal sparing only the women’s Bronze medal to the Sri Lanka Air Force athletes in 20 km walk event.

Major General R.A.J.N Ranasinghe RSP USP, Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Athletics, together with Brigadier V.M.N Hettiarachchi RWP RSP, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Army Athletics, Tri-Servece Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present during the event.

Gold Medal - Private P.H.S.L Fernando - Gajaba Regiment

Silver Medal - Lance Corporal H.M.S.R Herath - Sri Lanka Army Service Corps

Bronze Medal - Private R.D.S.K Sampath - Sri Lanka Signal Corps

Women’s Category

Gold Medal - Lance Corporal U.V.K Madirika - Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps

Silver Medal - Recruit P.B Gayani - Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps
