Making new records both in the Asian Athletics Championship (AAC) in Bangkok and Sri Lanka, the Sri Lankan team, comprised of Army athletes won a Gold Medal in 400 ×4 (Men’s Relay) on Sunday (16) in Bangkok.
All four Army runners who won the event include Sergeant H.K.K. Kumarage of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Bombardier S.A Darshana of 6 Sri Lanka Artillery, Lance Corporal R.M.R.N Rajakaruna of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and Gunner G.D.K.K Niku of 6 Sri Lanka Artillery.
The team in 3.01.56 minutes finished the event creating a new Asian Athletics Championship Record and a Sri Lankan Record too.
Meanwhile, the team from Sri Lanka in the 400 x 4 Women’s category, won the Silver medal today (16). Representing the Sri Lanka Army, Corporal N. Rathnayaka of 5 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps participated in the event. They also made a new Sri Lankan Record clocking 3:33.27 minutes.
