Army Assures Support for 'Maligawa' Project

Sri Lanka Army has assured its fullest cooperation to a sacred project to be implemented by the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of Tooth) in the near future, following a proposal, submitted by Mr Nilanga Dela Bandara, Diyawadana Nilame.

During a brief meeting Mr Bandara has had with the Commander of the Army, the proposal was briefly taken up for initial reviewing with the intention of seeking the support of the Army for the planned project which has received the blessings of both Mahanayakas (Prelates) of Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake during the meeting agreed to support in whatever the way possible to make the project a success. The intended exhibition of the Perahera Casket containing sacred relics is to be started off from the Lankapatuna sacred place in the East under the ‘Dalada Namami’ under this proposed project.

The project to be launched with the support of donors is to be conducted by improving infrastructure facilities of Buddhist temples in respective areas.

Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, Chief of Staff, Major General Lal Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - East, Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, Director Media and Lieutenant Colonel N. Edirisinghe were also present during the discussion.
