Army Amateur Boxers Collect 5 Gold & Silver Medals

Sri Lanka Army Boxers during the Novices Boxing Tournament of the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (ABA), held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium between August 22-25, secured the highest numbers of Gold and Silver medals against 173 entries.

Those Army male boxers dominated the whole of encounters throughout the tournament and bagged five Gold Medals out of a total of 10, which is considered a record achievement in the field of amateur boxing.

173 amateur boxers from Navy, Air Force, Police, Kotelawala Defence University, YMCA, Nugegoda Boxing Club, Horana Vidyarathna Sports Club and many other clubs under MAS Holdings competed for supremacy during the tournament.
In addition, Army male boxers won 5 Silver medals and 8 Bronze medals during the tournament. In the meantime, Army woman boxers carried away two Silver medals in the same tournament. Private K.T Ramesh of the Army was adjudged the Best Loser under 64 kg light weight category in the tournament.  

Remaining Gold medals for men were shared by Slimline (3) and the Police (2). Here is the list of Army’s Gold and Silver medal winners;

Women
