Army Amateur Boxers Claim Victory in Four Weight Categories


Sri Lanka Army Amateur Boxing Association organized Intermediate Amateur Boxing Tournament recently got underway at Colombo Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

Amateur boxers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Mass Holdings and a few more boxing teams in the private sector vied in the tournament which had ten men’s categories and ten women’s categories.  

In the men’s category, Gunner P.A.D Panagoda of Sri Lanka Artillery (under 60 Kg), Lance Corporal G.G.T Galkotuwa of Sri Lanka Light Infantry (under 64 Kg), Private A.R.B.E Thilakarathne of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (under 91 Kg) and Corporal G.A.N Perera of Gemunu Watch (over 91 Kg) made history securing four championships during the tournament. Four more runners-up slots and 11 3rd place slots went to the Army men’s category.

Similarly, Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) Private H.S Priyadarshani carried away the Championship Trophy under 48 Kg category and Private W.M.D Fernando of SLAWC clinched the runners-up trophy.

Gunner P.A.D Panagoda of Sri Lanka Artillery emerged the Best Sportsman and Private W.N.D Fernando was the Best Loser in the tournament.
