Army Actively Supports Development Projects

AFTER eradication of terrorism from the north and east, the people of the Eastern province continue to reap the benefits of this newly-dawned peace as the development in their areas under “Negenahira Udanaya” programme collects steam. 

Among the development projects launched by the government in the area that comes under 23 Division of the Sri Lanka Army are the construction of a new Divisional Secretariat building in Welikanda, and a road between Sinhapura and Thrikonamaduwa, the rehabilitation of Suriyawewa irrigation canal and the road running parallel to it, construction of a new bridge in Kandakadu and in Somawathi, road development projects of A-11, A-15, Palamitmadu - Savikadei - Kalkuda road and Kalawanchikudi road, the in-land fisheries project in Puthukkudiyiruppu, drinking water projects in Katankudi, Ariyanpathi, Kalawanchikudi and Tireimadu Tsunami village and also the construction of Pasikuda education institute.  

These projects are in full swing and people in the East will be benefited greatly after completion.  

In the meantime, the two villages, Talgashinna and Rangiriulpata situated in Gomarankadawala Divisional Secretariat area bordering Kebithigollewa and Kuchchaveli and Pankulama Tamil village that comes under 22 Division area, left abandoned for a long time due to terrorist attacks are to be rehabilitated. Recent military victories against LTTE terrorists brought peace to the area allowing villagers to return.

Engineering troops under 22 Division of Sri Lanka Army helped the people in the reconstruction of the tanks and to reclaim the lands for agricultural purposes. The Commander of 22 Division also visited those areas to inspect the progress of those development projects.
