Army 60th Anniversary Exhibition Begins Today

THE mega Army Exhibition, organized as part of the Army’s 60th Anniversary celebrations begins this morning (3) after a colourful ceremony at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) premises in the presence of a distinguished gathering of invitees, including His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapakse, Secretary Defence Dr. Gotabhaya Rajapakse, Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.

The Exhibition, largely spread across the open area   consists of over thirty large exhibiting stalls and displays captured LTTE arms, ammunition and equipment, including submarines of Tiger terrorists, Army’s modern weaponry and military hardware and a large assortment of other military exhibits.

Model enactments of humanitarian operations conducted to liberate east from Mavil Aru to Thoppigala, to liberate Madhu, Silavathra, Kilinochchi, Puthukkudiyiruppu, Puthumatalan and Vellamullivaikkal where final victorious battles were fought, to liberate north from Muhamalai to Chalai and relief work by the Army during natural disasters such as tsunami, flood, earth slips, cyclones etc. are on display.

Musical shows will add colour to the event until 7th October, the final day of the Exhibition. Entrance ticket is priced at Rs. 50/= and school children cost only half of the price. The Exhibition is open to the public from 10.00 a.m. until 10.00 p.m.. However, the Exhibition opens to the public at 12.00 noon on Saturday (3).
