Sri Lanka Army opened its own travel ticketing office for business on Thursday (23) at the Army Headquarters, fulfilling a long-felt need among Army personnel proceeding overseas for various courses, assignments, visits, etc.
The establishment of the Army ‘Air Travel Service (Pvt) Ltd’ by the Directorate of Movement, on directions given by Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, enables all service and Police personnel to buy their air tickets at attractive fares. Generally, such tickets for the Army are bought from private sector travel agencies, in some instances, at exorbitant prices, depending on the nature of the requirement.
However, ‘Air Travel Service (Pvt) Ltd’ is expected to move into a more spacious permanent building outside the Army Headquarters shortly expanding its services further to the general public as well.
Presently, all officers, other ranks and their families are able to buy their air tickets to any destination from this outlet at the Army Headquarters. ‘Air Travel Service (Pvt) Ltd’ expects to issue holiday packages to the public covering all destinations in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia, Latin America and the US.
Special pilgrimage packages to Buddhist places of interest in India (Dambadiva Tours) are also to be organized by this agency at affordable prices. Today’s initial opening was attended by Brigadier K C Gunawardana, Director, Directorate of Army Movement and several officers.
