The Civil Affairs Coordinating Office at 511 Brigade on data and statistics provided by the Kopay Divisional Secretariat, conducted a research and identified 74 families, managed by women as householders since their breadwinners are either physically handicapped, dead or have deserted their families.
Enabling them to make a living, the office organized a donation of 12 cows to 12 such women at their request following the sponsorship provided by the LEADS organization. Each cow is valued at Rs 43,000.00.
23 more women who opted to choose goat rearing as their living were provided with roofing sheets, cement and other materials, necessary for construction of sheds for goats. Each family received those materials worth of Rs. 15000/= and the total value of the donation of building materials was Rs. 3,45000/=. On completion of those sheds , they will be gifted with animals.
Commander 511 Brigade Brig. Keerthi Costa graced the ceremony to hand over the donations as Chief Guest on Monday (04) at Mahathma Jee Montessori school, Puththur. Jaffna Coordinating Officer of LEADS Mr. K. Janendran and LEADS Project Officer Jaffna Mr. Ranjith Kumar were also present.
The 511 Brigade of Atchelu in collaboration with “LEADS”, a non governmental organization (NGO) launched another community welfare project on Monday (04) to uplift the living standard of destitute women-headed families in the Brigade area.
