A 14-member group of medical students at Jaffna University gave away a large consignment of school accessories to flood-affected students in the south on Friday (9) as one more share of their gifts to the students at Yatigampitiya Junior School in Bulathsinhala.

This is the second such group who volunteered to arrive in Colombo and engage in this relief programme, following the coordination, put in place by Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Chief of Staff who formerly served as the Jaffna Security Forces Commander.

Distribution, organized by the Commandant, Institute for Peace Support Operations Training in Sri Lanka (IPSOTSL) saw those Jaffna University medical undergraduates, in addition to the school accessories such as bags, water bottles, stationery and other educational equipment to the value of Rs 3 lakhs, donate a sum of Rs 30,000 also to the school for its repairs and repainting at the same occasion.

Responding to a similar request of Jaffna University students earlier, Major General Senanayake with the support of the Headquarter Battalion of the Special Forces made all necessary arrangements including transport, food and accommodation for a group of Jaffna University donors, expecting to visit Kukuleganga area, earlier.

Those Jaffna medical undergraduates bought the consignment of school accessories with the support of members of the Army in Colombo before they travelled to Bulathsinhala for distribution of those relief items as the second Jaffna group.
