The annual ‘Koppara Pooja’ (lighting made of dry coconut) conducted by troops of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) on account of Esala Perahera was held at the Temple of Tooth Relics, Kandy on Tuesday (11).
6500 kg of Koppara was donated to lighten fire torches (flambeaus) by Major General Jagath Dias, Colonel of the Regiment, VIR, Centre Commandant Colonel D.M.K.D.B Pussella together with many officers, other rankers and their family members.
These torches are taken throughout the conduct of daily procession (Perahera) as traditional lighting equipment considering the symbolic traditional value.
