A gathering of 55 members of the clergy of all four major denominations, living in Ampara District sat together last week and discussed ways and means of promoting religious harmony and peaceful co-existence among all ethnic groups during a special meeting, held at the Divisional Secretariat, Alayadivembu, Akkaraipattu.
Attended by 24 Division General Officer Commanding under the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E), the forum of religious leaders exchanged views on matters of relevance and concern to them with the intention of promoting ethnic harmony and religious co-existence, amidst attempts by interested parties to disturb peace in the province.
All administrators, local politicians, senior Police officers, tri-service personnel and Grama Seva officials took part in the discussion.
