Troops of the 24 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ-East in Ampara, including the troops of under command Brigades and Battalions celebrated the Vesak Festival 2023 symbolizing religious harmony under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding of the 24 Infantry Division Major General W Chandarasiri RSP USP on Vesak Poya Day (May 05).
Accordingly, troops of the 24 Infantry Division HQ presented an impressive rotating Vesak lantern at Malwatta Junction, Ampara. Simultaneously, the Vesak 'Dansela' organized by All Ranks of the 24 Infantry Division offered a delicious traditional corriander drink with jaggery to all devotees and sight-seers.
Meanwhile, troops of the 241 Infantry Brigade threw a Sago 'Dansela’ in front of the Brigade Headquarters at Akkaraipattu with the blessings of the Brigade Commander. Further, 11 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops joined a Bodhi Pooja at Neeththa Seelathalarama Temple. Troops also threw a corriander 'Dansela’ at Eragama, and added colourful Vesak lanterns to the Akkaraipattu Temple.
Meanwhile,16 SLNG troops organized a Bodhi Pooja and a corriander 'Dansela’ for the people in Annamalai area on account of 'Vesak'. 18 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops meanwhile held a ‘rice dansela’ (free eatery) at Karathiv for the people in the area and displayed an impressive rotating Vesak lantern at Kalmunai town, adding value to the festival.
Celebrating the Vesak Festival in the 242 Infantry Brigade area, the Brigade Headquarters along with under command Battalions displayed colourful Vesak lanterns at each HQ and organized three free eateries at Brigade Headquarters, 23 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment HQ and also at the 8 SLNG HQ, respectively as gestures of goodwill.
