American Medical teams conduct clinics in Jaffna

A thirty- member team of American medical staff are among others to help Tsunami victims at northern Manthikai Government Hospital, Point Pedro. Well understood of the medical needs of those people, the American marines are now conducting a full day medical clinic at this hospital since 18th January 2005.

Life and normalcy to Manthikai areas, to keep up with the ongoing relief and rehabilitation work of the government, is returning fast after the tidal wave tragedy struck the livelihood of hundreds of fishermen and others. Since the day one after the tragedy, troops with the help of the Police, local authorities and other agencies were busy providing all possible assistance to the displaced men, women and children who are sheltered in different public and community buildings.

The American medical team was to conduct this medical clinic until 27th instant as more and more people are seeking medical assistance from them.

Meanwhile, another humanitarian programme initiated by Major General S.D. Tennakoon, Commander Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna, saw the light of the day when school children were gifted with a stock of educational materials and equipment to the value of Rs. 50,000/= by troops of the Air Mobile Brigade of the Army.

The collection of those accessories was made on individual basis by all Officers and Other Ranks of the Air Mobile Brigade in view of the requirements of the displaced school children.

The stock was handed over to Jaffna Divisional Secretary Mr. K. Ganesh, by Major N. Hettiarachchi, Brigade Major, Air Mobile Brigade representing the Brigade Commander Colonel G.V.D.U.A. Perera, on 19 January 2005 at the District Secretariat's office.
