Ambepussa SLSR Regimental HQ Salutes Unmatched Sacrifices of its Fallen War Heroes

The Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR), one of the most battle-hardened infantry regiments of the Army during commemorative ceremonies, held at the SLSR Regimental HQ at Ambepussa for the 30th consecutive year during 19-20 November commemorated the bravery acts of its 144 officers and 3720 other ranks who made the supreme sacrifice while defending the country’s territorial integrity.

The ceremony was programmed under the guidance of Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Colonel of the Regiment with the intention of awarding the highest tribute to the memory of fallen SLSR war heroes and remembering the dedicated roles of their families where multi religious ceremonies of all four major faiths, offer of alms and laying of floral wreaths took the pride of place.

An all-night 'Pirith' chanting followed by offering of alms to 66 Buddhist monks transferred merits to fallen War Heroes who were 'swift and bold' as the SLSR cherished motto recognizes. Mounting vigil and sound of the buglers marked the commencement of the ceremony as relatives of fallen War Heroes including mothers, fathers, widows, sons, and daughters lined up to revere the departed beloved ones who defended sovereignty, territorial integrity and peace of the Motherland at the risk of their precious lives.

The ceremony ended with Reveille, and sounding of the Last Post followed by the vigil dismounting as beloved family members burst into tears.

The SLSR Centre Commandant and a gathering of Senior Officers were present during those commemorative events.
