The indoor gymnasium at Panagoda Army Cantonment on Friday (5) cheered a massive gathering of around 1000 Army sportsmen/women, probably for the first time in the recent Army sports history, giving them due recognition for their achievements at Inter regiment, defence services, national and international levels.
Brigadier Anura Sudasinghe, Director Army Sports addressed them and appreciated their achievements in the year just ended.
Afterwards, the reading of the Commander’s New Year message took place on account of the New Year.
This inspiring address, a novel arrangement, organized by the Directorate of Sports in line with the Commander’s wish to see all of them under one roof and encourage them for better results in forthcoming Defence Services Games, was attended by many Senior Officers, including all secretaries in Army sports committees.
Director Sports underlined the importance of introduction of new techniques and advanced training modules in order to elevate standards of Army sports. Further, the attendees were enlightened on welfare measures, including ‘Suwasahana’ loan scheme, ten-month loan plan and ‘Suwasahana’ insurance plan and hospital facilities, etc, available to them.
At the end of the arrangement, all shared refreshments with one another in order to mark the dawn of the New Year - 2018.
