Air Force Commander Warmly Receives New Army Commander

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army who took over office recently as the 24th Commander of the Army made his first courtesy visit to the Sri Lanka Air Force Headquarters on Thursday (9) and called on Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Commander of the Air Force.

Air Vice Marshal Dilshan Wasage, Commanding Officer, Sri Lanka Air Force Base, Colombo welcomed Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage on arrival at the Air Force Headquarters and invited him to receive the salute in the Guard of Honour, accorded in his honour in conformity with military traditions. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage at the Parade Commander’s request took the salute after review of it from the special dais.

After a while, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Commander of the Air Force received the visiting Army Chief and introduced his Board of Management Officers to the day’s Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage. Afterwards, the day’s Chief Guest joined for group photographs.

Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana during cordial interactions that followed spoke of the sound relations that prevail between both organizations and highlighted the need to sustain close relations as far as security arrangements are concerned. The new Commander of the Army also shared a few thoughts with his host and thanked him for the hospitality.

The Air Force Commander offering his compliments, best wishes on his new office awarded a special memento to the new Army Chief and the gesture was reciprocated. Before his departure, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage was also requested to leave his thoughts in the visitors’ book.
