A STOCK of agriculture and fishing equipment were distributed among some newly re-settled civilians living in Vavuniya, Mannar and Mullaittivu areas by Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Mr. Basil Rakjapaksa to assist them in continuing their livelihood.
A ceremony in this connection was held on Saturday (21) at the Security Forces Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W) premises.
34 tractors, 74 mud-wheels, 7 ploughs, 5 disk ploughs, 60 water pumps, 60 boats, 31 fish-collecting boxes and 64 fishing nets were among the items distributed among the civilians during the occasion.
150 jack plants were also given to the residents in those areas.
Meanwhile, Mr. Basil Rajapaksa met residents at the Menik Farm relief village the same day during his visit to the location.
At the same time, SFHQ - (W) Commander handed over some jewelry recovered by the troops during their humanitarian operation to the Bank of Ceylon (BoC) General Manager Mr. N. Sivaratnam and the People’s Bank Regional Manager Mr. Vijitha Malalasekara with details of their owners.
Those valuables belonging to innocent civilians had been in the possession of Tiger terrorists when they were found.
Total value of the jewelry given to the BoC was Rs. 40.8 million while the value of jewelry given to the Peoples Bank was Rs. 618.7 million.
Ministers Rishad Badurdeen and Felix Perera, Governor Northern Province Major General (Retd) G.A. Chandrasiri and Commander SFHQ (W) Major General Kamal Gunaratne also joined the visit.
